Perfect skin is essential no matter what foundation you use, bake it, set it, or spray it, if the skin is flawless your application and finish will be too!
Hydration is key, yes I know Cape Town is currently going through a water crisis, but consuming less than your required amount will start to show and that will definitely not help with the dreaded day zero. But if you drink your daily 2 litres and still need a little boost why not try these? - My top MAC Cosmetics skin routine basics.
MAC on Animal Testing
Disclaimer, although MAC Cosmetics does not directly test on animals some countries by law require the testing of ingredients and products used by the brand. Thus not certifying MAC Cosmetics as Cruelty-Free. MAC has partnered with the INSTITUTE FOR IN VITRO SCIENCES (IIVS) to actively change this and seeking alternatives. Read more here.
Ok, so now that the elephant in the room has been adressed, let’s get into the review, shall we?
LIGHTFUL C COLLECTION
First up LIGHTFUL C Marine-bright formula essence. The Lightful C range forms part of MAC's skincare collection, stated to illuminate, brighten and plump the skin for that fresh, relaxed and youthful appearance. Although this is a product best suited to form part of your daily skin regime, I like to use this as the first step in my application to moisturise, hydrate and awaken the skin. With a couple of pumps gently massage the face after cleansing, patting it in until fully absorbed. The product has a water-like consistency that allows fast absorption with no tacky finish. The delicate floral scent will really kick things off. The key benefit of this product is that it visibly evens out skin tone, reduces dark spots and improves overall clarity.
Hydrate, brightening, plumping // 30ml - R670.00
A makeup artists essential is a setting spray and Fix+ is the queen of them all. Fix+ is the leader of the pack in its collection but have you tried any of the PREP + PRIME products?
PREP + PRIME COLLECTION
PREP + PRIME Essential Oil. For months I've been obsessed with this unique little bottle, seen all over my IG feed, mixed in with foundation, pigment or just straight on the bare skin for that healthy glow. Like all the other MAC products in my #RebuildMyKit, this little gem had me all excited. With a couple of drops your skin will feel hydrated, moisturised and energised. The craziest thing is that even though it's an essential oil combination, it won't leave your skin looking, or feeling, like an oil slick. Honestly, the uses are endless, lips, eyes, face, nails - if you think it might, it just will.
Hydrate, improves radiance, clarify // 14ml - R500.00
To complete my skin prep routine is the PREP + PRIME Natural Radiance makeup primer. A gel-like formula perfectly suited for oily and/or combination skin, leaving you looking hydrated and radiant. With a single pump, dot it around the face and gently work from the middle, or problem areas, outwards. This silicone-free formulation controls oil buildup, assisting with long-lasting hydration and foundation stay. Perfectly paired with any foundation coverage or even on bare skin, especially for male grooming on set.
Hydrate, illuminating, controls oil // 50ml - R550.00
So this is my 3 step skin hydration prep before concealing, colour correcting and foundation application. The appearance of radiant, glowing and healthy skin is the most youthful look on any person, no matter your age. So keep hydrated, moisturise and never skip sunscreen.
Please share your perfect skin prep routine in the comment section, I would love to hear what works for you.
